“How Kaley Cuoco Avoided the Uncomfortable Phases of Hair Growth,,” Kaley Cuoco’s hair journey from lob to pixie and back again has been nothing short of amazing.”

Kaley Cuoco’s hair journey from lob to pixie and back again has been nothing short of amazing. We’ve always found it fascinating how smoothly she switched between lengths, and we have the Instagram photos to prove it. Cuoco isn’t in the awkward stage of growing out her hair anymore. For most women, the process of growing out their hair is similar to puberty—there are awkward phases and strange things that you must get through. Cuoco is an exception. Since it reached its shortest point in January of 2015, hers has changed rather gracefully. To find out the solution, we turned to her hairstylist Christine Symonds.

Her approach: “The trick to growing out Kaley’s pixie has been pruning the back of her hair on occasion to let the front and sides catch up,” she says. The images below show the progression as it happens right before your eyes. The true secret, though?

That’s when she got us. Cuoco did go through these weird phases, but Symonds used her messy, bedhead-like texture to draw attention away from it. This is an essential piece of knowledge for anyone experiencing transitional difficulties. When you reach a roadblock in your growing-out process, use a curling iron and texturizer to add some bend and movement. It serves as a hair camouflage.

In the picture timeline below, identify the uncomfortable phases concealed behind the stunning bedhead texture. Spoiler alert: you can’t.
